Disney is a worldwide-known franchise that has created some of the best and most recognizable animated and non-animated films in history. Now the company is turning 100! It’s time for celebrations and a look at some of the most notable and groundbreaking moments! Kids and adults everywhere still enjoy each film, so let’s see how it all started!
1923 – The Creation of the Disney Establishment
Roy and Walt Disney signed a contract with the biggest animated film distributor at the time and launched the Alice Comedies. Walt himself wrote and produced all 57 episodes, and from there began the start of the popular film franchise we know today!
1937 – Snow White Becomes First Full-Length Film
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves became Walt’s first full-length featured film, and what a film it was!
When the 11th Academy Awards rolled around, Walt won an Oscar for his work on the film—one statue surrounded by seven miniature statuettes!
1983 – The TV Channel Launches
The launch of one of the most well-known channels was on April 18th, at precisely 7 o’clock in the morning. That’s when the Disney Channel became a reality.
It featured 18 hours a day of all sorts of entertaining kids’ movies, and is still just as popular today!
1992 – Beaty and the Beast Wins an Oscar
At the 64th annual Academy Awards, Beauty and the Beast won an award for best picture – can you imagine? An animated movie with the best picture way back when!
What an achievement for a movie that became an all-time favorite through the ages—and it still holds up today, especially the Be Our Guest musical number section!
1995 – Toy Story – Fully Computer Animated
Toy Story was a big deal for Disney – it was the first full-length film to be fully computer-animated. It wasn’t like the rest, which was traditionally hand-drawn.
It certainly made history – it was a big stepping stone for the company with its fun characters like Sheriff Woody and Buzz Lightyear. We can’t think of any other Disney/Pixar movie series that has had three sequels, after all.
